About GPS

28 Years. 70,000+ Claims. One Job: Putting Buildings Back Together.

Since 1998, GPS has specialised in putting properties back together after damage. What began as a business built around insurance claims and reinstatement has evolved through 28 years of hands-on experience, trusted trade relationships and continually refined systems.

Insurance reinstatement remains at the core of what we do, but our expertise has expanded to include general building repairs, maintenance, refurbishment and property projects. Whether it's a small repair, an emergency make-safe or a major reinstatement, we bring the same practical experience, professional standards and commitment to getting the job done properly.

Our story

Our Story & Experience

Built on experience. Refined over 28 years.

GPS grew out of GW Grayburn, an established contract building company. In 1998, the decision was made to take a different approach — rather than being a general builder that occasionally undertook insurance work, GPS was created as a business Specialising in Insurance Claims and Reinstatement.

That decision shaped the way we have worked ever since.

For the past 28 years, we have continued to refine our systems, processes, relationships and expertise around delivering building repairs and insurance reinstatement efficiently and professionally.

One of the strengths of GPS has always been our trade network. The specialist subcontractors we built relationships with when GPS was established are, in many cases, the same people and businesses we continue to work with today. These long-standing relationships mean we know who we are sending to your property, understand the quality of their work and can rely on them to deliver.

It is why we can arrange for a glazier to attend a broken window quickly, and why, where possible, you will see the same trusted plasterers, painters, builders and specialist tradespeople returning to our jobs. Our relationships are built on trust, reliability and years of working together — not simply on who is available at the time.

Insurance Reinstatement at Our Core

While insurance reinstatement remains at the core of what we do, our experience and capabilities have naturally expanded over the years.

Today, GPS also provides a broader range of building repairs, maintenance, refurbishment and property services, supporting clients with both insurance-related and privately funded work.

Our experience in managing insurance claims has given us a strong understanding of assessment, reinstatement, project coordination, documentation, timeframes and working with insurers, brokers and loss adjusters. We bring that same structured approach, practical knowledge and professional standard to every project we undertake.

From emergency make-safe works and insurance reinstatement through to general building repairs, maintenance, property improvements and larger construction projects, our team has the experience and resources to manage the job.

120+ Years of Hands-On Experience

Our four Building Inspectors have more than 120 years of combined hands-on trade experience — around 30 years each. All are trade-qualified carpenters, with extensive experience in building, insurance reinstatement and assessing damage.

That depth of practical experience means they know what to look for, understand how buildings go back together and can identify the right repair solution — whether it's a straightforward repair or a complex reinstatement.

Our Inspectors also hold Licensed Building Practitioner (LBP) qualifications and Site Safe Construction Passports, combining decades of practical trade knowledge with recognised industry qualifications.

Our building team is led by Director Scott Fyfe and Business Manager Karen Renall, who bring extensive experience in estimating, project management, site supervision and insurance reinstatement. Together, they oversee the building team and our established trade network to ensure projects are properly assessed, coordinated and delivered to a consistently high professional standard.

From a Single Repair to a Major Project

Today, GPS can manage projects ranging from a small repair through to complex, large-scale reinstatement and building projects.

Whether it is a broken window, water damage, storm damage, general building repair, planned maintenance, refurbishment or a complete property reinstatement, we can coordinate the right people and resources to get the job done.

28 years of specialising in claims has given us something that cannot be bought or quickly replicated — experience, trusted relationships and a proven way of getting things done.

While the nature of the work has expanded, our approach has remained the same:

Know what needs to be done. Get the right people on the job. Do it properly.

Our promise

Our Workmanship Guarantee

We stand behind the quality of our work.

All workmanship supplied by GPS is backed by a 10-year, 100% unconditional workmanship guarantee.

Where a product, fixture or fitting installed by GPS becomes defective during the applicable manufacturer's warranty period, we will liaise with the manufacturer and arrange for the defective item to be repaired or replaced in accordance with their warranty terms.

Where the manufacturer's warranty does not include a back-to-base or return-to-supplier warranty, any additional costs associated with the return, removal, transport or replacement of the item may apply.

In short, if it's our workmanship, we stand behind it. If it's a product, we'll help you navigate the manufacturer's warranty and get the issue resolved.

How we work

How We Work

  1. One Project Co-Ordinator per job

Not a call centre, not a rotating queue. You have one person who knows your project, understands what needs to happen and stays involved from the initial assessment through to completion. They are the person you deal with and the person you can call.

  2. We scope it properly the first time

A job that comes back with unanswered questions, missing information or unexpected costs wastes time for everyone. Our team has decades of hands-on building and reinstatement experience, so we know what needs to be considered upfront. That means clearer scopes, more accurate estimates and fewer surprises once work begins.

  3. We communicate when things change

Things can change on building projects. Materials get delayed, access issues arise, or damage can turn out to be more extensive once work begins. What matters is that you know about it early. We keep you informed, explain what has changed and recommend the best way forward — so there are no surprises further down the track.

  4. We keep you informed

Good communication shouldn't require chasing. We keep clients and stakeholders updated throughout the project, so everyone knows what is happening, what comes next and whether anything needs attention. For clients managing multiple claims, properties or projects, our tailored reporting provides another level of visibility across the entire portfolio.

  5. We see the job through

Getting the main work finished is only part of the job. We make sure the details are completed, the snags are addressed and the property is left clean, tidy and ready to use. We stay involved through to the final sign-off because how a job finishes matters just as much as how it starts.

It's not complicated. Know the job. Own the job. Communicate. Finish what we start.

Reporting

Reporting Built Around You

No two clients measure performance in exactly the same way, which is why all GPS reporting is fully customisable.

We build our KPI and performance reporting around your business, your service standards and the information you want to see. You choose what matters, how it is measured, how the information is presented and how often you receive it.

Reporting can include everything from claim volumes, response and assessment times through to estimating, approvals, file life, work in progress, completion timeframes and overall performance — or any other measures that are important to your business.

Whether you need a simple monthly snapshot or detailed reporting across an entire portfolio, we can build it around your requirements and adapt it as those requirements change.

Your KPIs. Your measures. Your reporting — built your way.

Where We Work

Auckland is home, but our relationships don't stop at the Auckland border.

Our core team and established trade network cover the greater Auckland region, from Rodney to Franklin and across to Waiheke and the Hauraki Gulf Islands. It's where we have spent more than 28 years building the local knowledge, trade relationships and systems that allow us to respond quickly and deliver consistently.

For our commercial, property and portfolio clients with operations across New Zealand, we're happy to discuss work outside Auckland. Depending on the location and requirements, we can coordinate projects directly or work with trusted contractors and specialist trades to provide the same level of oversight, communication and project management our clients expect from GPS.

So while Auckland remains our day-to-day service area, don't let geography stop you from calling us. If you have a property, project or portfolio outside Auckland, talk to us first and we'll let you know how we can help.
